Christmas Day Hair: Flexi-Rods…

At 14weeks post relaxer, the only way to blend both textures is doing some form of curls because flat ironing isn't even a question for me . Since I just had a full wash day I opted for a quick co-wash. Don' forget to check out Miss Dre Liebster Award questions here.
[1]   Deep Conditioned with my Queen Helene Cholesterol mixture on dry hair for 20mins
       and rinsed.
[2]   Cleansed my scalp with Aussie Moist Conditioner.
[3]   Wrapped my hair in a t-shirt for 45mins to absorb the excess water.
[4]   Before applying my leave in conditioners I sprayed my hair with Mane n Tail detangler
on my roots. This detangler is no joke, it literally melts my tangles away. Applied my
leave in conditioners of Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer , Aussie Moist
Conditioner, Herbal Essences Split End Protector(on my ends) and Coconut oil to my
hair and detangled again carefully. I had no issues detangling at all.
[5]   I sectioned my hair in 4 (2 at the front & at the back) and used my wide width comb first,
then a smaller comb to make sure there were no knots or tangles before rolling the hair.

I had my moisturizing spray bottle on hand to keep my hair moist before rolling unto the flexi-rods.  I used end wrap papers to secure the ends as the rolled the hair up in a spiral set.
It took me about 1hr & 15mins to install 25 rods. Before getting under my hooded dryer I used my trusted Tresemme Heat Tamer spray and sat under the hooded dryer for 30mins.  Since I was going to the midnight service I let the rest of my hair air dry.

OOTD: End Of Year Office Christmas Lunch..

The beautiful Miss Dre over at  So She Writes nominated me for a Liebster Award so please check out her questions and my responses as I updated the post on the award here*

Our annual Christmas luncheon for work was held at the Radisson Hotel for 12.30pm.  Unfortunately we still had to turn up for work from 8:00am- 12:00pm, yup it sucks but we live right.  The hotel was beautifully laid out and the room we were in was decorated nicely as well.

The food was fantastic, and ranged from rice and peas, macaroni pie, garlic potatoes, jug jug (Barbadian dish), baked chicken, mahi mahi (fish), turkey, ham, stem vegetables, sweet potato salad, Caesar salad as the main course. We started off with a bowl of soup and finished up with mini’s cheese cake, chocolate cake, apple pie, great cake (Barbadian type of cake) for desert.

Recap: 2013 Hits & Misses...

Just the other day it was January, before I knew it, March was here and I started planning my trip. Before I could blink twice it was June and I was enjoying my vacation, then it was my birthday in September and now December is upon us. This year certainly flew by really fast but I got to capture great memories in the process.

2013 Hits
  • Started my blog *throws confetti*
  • My hair grew to APL (Armpit Length)  the longest it has ever been in my adult life.
  • Started my YouTube Channel (If anyone had said to me in 2012 that I would be on YouTube I would have laughed so hard but now I’m here and glad I am too).

MAC | Riri Hearts MAC Holiday Collection With Swatches…

I’m so excited that I finally have my hands on the Riri Hearts Holiday Collection *throws confetti*. Ordering online would have been a total nightmare since it was sold out in 15mins. What’s worst is the shipment to Barbados was so small it was sold out in a flash as well.  Kevin was so gracious that he went to the Mac store 2 hours early to make sure he got those lipsticks for me and he was successful. He actually tried to trick me by messaging me after the Mac store opened saying he hit snooze on his alarm and then he didn't hear it go off again, so he now has to get ready to leave home to head to the Mac store. I wasn't panicked because I knew he was teasing me.

Take a look at these gorgeous shades of the Mac Riri Heart Holiday Collection 2013 lipsticks.

Co-Wash Day @ 12 Weeks Post...

Last weekend wash day went okay but I’m seeing a lot more single strand knots (SKK) as of recently. I used Elasta QP Intense conditioner and it left my hair tangled and less moisturized from my prepoo which was Aussie Moist Conditioner.  This has been the 2nd time that I have used it and I’m not impressed one bit. I’m not ready to throw in the towel yet as you guys know I don’t like wasting money so I’ll try a few more concoctions with it before I give my final verdict.

Today my hair really needed that extra boost of moisture and since I’m on vacation I did a quick co-wash.

11 Week Post Relaxer And My Edges Are Sleeked Down…

Oh my where did 2013 go, December is here and it’s the most wonderful time of the year.  I’m not one to really care about my edges for work because I don’t interact with customers or work in the front line however when I’m going out with my girls or otherwise, coily edges is a no no.  If you follow me on instagram, you would have seen when I posted about my sleeked edges. Normally I would do a flexi-rod set to blend both textures but I was going out Friday night with my girls and there was no way I would have time to do all of that.

A couple months ago I went into Bridgetown to look for the famous Eco-Style Gel but I couldn't find any at that point in time so I scooped up Ampro Pro Styl Protein Styling Gel as a backup product for $3.99BDS.  Eco-Styler Gel is available in Barbados at various beauty supply stores and I saw this after I purchased the Ampro Pro Styl Gel. It 's a protein gel but its alcohol free and non greasy. Directions say [1]  Apply to wet or dry hair and comb through [2]  Allow to dry naturally or use a blow dryer [3]  Ideal for use with sculptured styles and roller sets.

didn't want a super hard hold and since I've never used gel on my edges since I started my Healthy Hair Journey, [1] I decided to use my moisturizing spray first on my edges [2] Followed by wetting my soft brush [3] I dipped the brush into the gel and softly combed my edges [4] I tied my edges down with a scarf for 3 hours and I really like the results and would definitely use this gel again.

Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy (908C) Lipstick…

I picked up this gorgeous shade lipstick from the Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color and fell in love with it instantly. It’s a semi-matte lipstick with great pigmentation.  Although it’s a matte it isn't drying (atleast on my lips) but I do add a lip balm before applying.  It has a crayon smell which isn't appealing to me at all. A lot of people have said it’s a dupe for MAC Rebel, so if you don’t want to spend hefty, this is a great alternative.

Have you tried any of Wet N Wild Lipsticks & What's your favorite shade?

NEW VIDEO | Natural Bun & Sock Bun…

I have been getting alot of questions about  how I achieve my buns so I decided visual was better and I did a video to show you guys.  I usually rock a natural bun to work and casual outings.  However, when I want more volume with my buns, I add a sock for more uniformed and large look.

Take a look of how I do my buns in the video:

From the pictures below the two top pics almost look identical but you can tell that the sock bun is more defined.

How To Make *Miss* Products Work For You…

Don’t you just hate when you spend your hard earned money on a product especially when everyone is raving about it and it doesn't work for you. You can opt to give it away to friends or family if you want, but if you are like me and don’t like wasting money you WILL find a way to make it work for your hair.

Do you remember me whining about the Aussie Moist Shampoo and how my hair hated this stuff (see my review here). Well, even though I diluted it to reduce the harshness, it still didn't work and then a thought came into my head. Since my CON Moisture & Shine Shampoo is so moisturizing why not add abit to the Aussie Moist Shampoo to test it out. This is what I did:

[1]   Get an applicator bottle
[2]   Pour some Aussie Moist Shampoo to point 1 in photo
[3]   Add some CON Moisture & Shine Shampoo to point 2 in photo
[4]   Add Water to point 3 in photo
[5]   Add 5 drops of Peppermint Oil
[6]   Shake very well before use.

I have the best of both worlds right now because my hair gets cleaned and still remains

Aphogee – Protein Wash Day…

I’m currently 8weeks post relaxer but I feel like I’m 10-12weeks post, these coils are seriously business.  I usually do a strong protein treatment every 6-8 weeks and the last time I did one was 1 week post relaxer. Protein wash day also means hopping in and out the shower 3 times *argh*.

[1]   Prepooed with Coconut Oil with a few drops of peppermint on my scalp [did a scalp
massage for 5 mins] and on the length of  my hair for 30mins under my heat cap.

Twist and Bun Two Ways…

This hairstyle was a mishap and so unplanned. My hair was in a ponytail and the front was left out. Not wanting to undo my pony tail I just twisted the front section and glided it around my high ponytail, then bun my hair. I wore my hair like this for 3 days then I switched it up and wore a low bun for 2 days.

I like the fact that it adds character to the side of my face instead of the same old bun which is combed straight back without any parts.  No sock was used for any of these buns. Sorry for the quality of the pics, it was taken with my phone.

Wash Day with Flexi-Rods…

Don’t you just love a hassle free wash day, well let’s dive into it.

[1  Prepooed with Coconut oil mixed with a couple drops of peppermint oil on my scalp and
did a scalp massage for 5 mins. Then added KeraPro Restorative Intensive Treatment
mixed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil on the length of my hair for 30mins under my heat cap.
[2  Shampooed with a diluted mix of Aussie Moist Shampoo with some drops of
peppermint oil and followed up with CON Moisture & Shine Shampoo. I can’t wait to
get rid of this Aussie shampoo, very disappointing.
[3]   Deep Conditioned with L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage-Erasing Balm for 35mins under my
heat cap.  First impressions: I was surprised how moisturized my hair felt after rinsing it
out because this conditioner didn’t sink into my strands, so far so good.
[4  Wrapped my hair in a t-shirt for 30mins to absorb the excess water
[5  Applied my leave in conditioner's of Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer,
Herbal Essences Split End Protector (ends only), Aussie Moist Conditioner and Coconut
Oil to my hair and detangled really easy although I’m 5weeks post.
[6  Let my hair air dry, then applied Jamaican Black Castor Oil on my scalp and moisturized
my hair with Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter and sealed with Hot Six Oil.

Since I was going out to dinner with one of my closest girlfriends I decided to have some curls and decided to do a pony tail with flexi-rods on the ends as well as 4 flexi-rods at the front of my hair. Since I had already moisturized and sealed I just sprayed my ends with water and rolled the hair unto the rods with end wrap papers on the ends. To see what I wore out to dinner click here.

Girls Night Out: The Birthday Celebration…

"Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down”
“A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself”

Today is one of my closest girlfriends birthday and to celebrate I took her out to dinner at Tapas Restaurant for a relaxing, girl catch up kind of night. Dionne is no stranger to this blog as she was featured here before. We don’t talk everyday but when we do talk it’s like we never missed a day before. She’s like a sister from another mother, love her to bits.

We arrived on time and were seated within 5mins. The restaurant wasn't full but the ambiance was nice and by the time we were ready to leave it had filled up.  I don’t like eating heavy foods after 9.00pm so I skipped starters and went straight for a main course. We both ordered the Pork Tenderloin which came with mashed potatoes, with bits of bacon in it. As usual my drink was a mudslide but Dionne ordered Passionate Paradise.  The mudslide I had at TGIF is still the best I've tasted and unfortunately they are now closed down.

The pork was very well seasoned and tasted delicious, thumbs up to the chef. We were so stuff that we didn't bother with desert but the restaurant were so nice to bring over a bowl of ice-cream with a strawberry in it and a sparkling candle to end the night on a fantastic note. Dionne was surprised as seen on her face below. Here are a few pics from that night and I did her make-up:

Protective Hairstyles for Relaxed, Texlaxed & Natural Hair…

What are Protective Styles?

This is wearing your hair up in a style that doesn't put strain on your edges or nape and keep your ends off your shoulders and back. These are styles that protect the ends from rubbing, splitting and being damaged by the elements. Here are a few Hairstyles that I have rocked which help protect our fragile ends with the hope of retaining length. They are all very simple and easy to do.

Wash Day with Bantu-Knot Out #Fail...

I felt so lazy that morning because I couldn't decide how to style my hair after my wash day perhaps Flexi-Rods, Roller Set, Bantu –knots I don’t know.
Note: I ALWAYS detangle prior to starting my wash day.

[1]   Prepooed with Extra Virgin Coconut Oil mixed with some peppermint oil on my scalp and
a bunch of conditioners that I’m trying to get rid of, mixed with some honey on the length
of my hair for 20mins under my heat cap.
[2]   Shampooed with Aussie Moist Shampoo diluted with water and a few drops of peppermint
oil because it strips my hair. Followed up with CON Moisture & Shine Shampoo and rinsed.
[3]   Applied Aphogee Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor for 3 mins and rinsed.
[4]   Deep Conditioned with Elasta QP Intense Fortifying Conditioning Treatment (first use) for
30 mins under my heat cap.  First Impressions it smells great and has a lot of slip. I did not        mix anything with it because I want to see if the product proclaims its word.
[5]   Wrapped my hair in a t-shirt for 1hr to absorb the excess water
[6]   Applied Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer, Aussie Moist Conditioner
Herbal Essences Split-End Protector (on my ends) and Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to my
hair and detangling has been a breeze so far since I’m only 3 weeks post relaxer.

NO More Popping Pills to Boost Hair Growth...

Yup you read the title correctly. Back in February I decided to try out the Spring Valley Hair, Skin and Nails Vitamins and I must say I really liked the results I got. See my review here at 7weeks post and (here) at 14weeks post relaxer.  I only tried this vitamin to see what all the hype was about, by taking vitamins to grow your hair and it’s not a venture I will continue.

Yes I did gain an additional ½ to 1 inch more than normal but what are the consequences of that extra ½ to 1 inch more?  Before I decided on the brand vitamins I wanted to take, I did a lot of research to find out the side effects and NO ONE experienced anything out of the ordinary outside the break-outs due to the high level of biotin in them.  I personally didn't experience an increase in hair growth in any other parts of my body except on my head, perhaps I was lucky lol . I definitely increased my water intake to ensure minimum break-outs happened and I succeeded.

Even though research showed no one experienced any side effects that would be harmful to our

Wash Day Post Relaxer…

After relaxing my hair I like to do a protein treatment one week after but not later than two weeks after to add some strength back into my strands.

[1]   Prepooed with Extra Virgin Coconut Oil on my scalp and on the length of my hair.
[2]   Shampooed with ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo.
[3]   Applied Aphogee Two Step Protein treatment and sat under my hooded dryer for 15mins
till my hair was rock solid. Please Note do not comb or brush your hair after using
this treatment prior to rinsing it out as your hair will break due to the stiffness.
[4]   Appllied Aphogee Balancing Moisturizer for 2mins and rinsed.
[5]   Followed up with Neutrogena Triple Moisture Hair Mask for 35mins.
[6]   Wrapped my hair in a t-shirt for 30mins to absorb the excess water.
[7]   Applied Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer , Herbal Essences Split-End
Protector (on my ends), Aussie Moist Conditioner & Hot Six Oil.

Fully wrapped my hair damp and sat under my hooded dryer for 30 mins and allowed the rest of my hair to airdry.

Relaxer Day Results & I CUT 3 Inches off…

The night before my relaxer, I parted my hair in 4 sections and sprayed my new growth with the Mane n Tail detangler, then combed with my wide width comb followed by smaller teeth comb to make sure all my coils were combed out properly so it’s easier when the relaxer is applied. Then I applied Vaseline on my scalp.  It took me 1 hour & 30mins to carefully detangle.

The morning of my relaxer I applied Extra Virgin Olive Oil on my ends first followed by Roux Porosity Control Corrector Conditioner on my ends to protect it from relaxer run off.

My relaxer process was exactly the same as the June relaxer day results seen (here) (same process and products used) except the total time of application and smoothing took 12mins. As usual, my hair was fully wrapped and I left the salon with my hair the same way after sitting under the dryer for 1hr & 15mins and my hair was still damp at the top.  The back of my hair came out bone straight but the top has alil texture to it. I got one burn and suffered some breakage during the relaxer process.

Relaxer Prep & New Growth @ 14 Weeks Post

Once I’m incorporating protein into my wash day, it means jumping in and out the shower 3 times argh. I'm using protein to strengthen my strands before undergoing the relaxer process, which breaks down the bonds in the hair follicle which makes your tresses straight (from curly or coily to straight).  I finger detangled first, then followed up with my width comb and strangely enough I didn't need my Mane n Tail Detangler like the last wash day before my relaxer in June which was a total nightmare

[1  Prepooed with Grapeseed oil and coconut oil with a few drops of peppermint on my scalp
and on the length of my hair for 30mins under my heat cap.
[2  Shampooed with ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo (remove build up) & Elasta QP Crème
       Conditioning Shampoo.
[3]   I normally use the Aphogee two step treatment (hard protein treatment)but I ran out and
couldn’t find any at short notice so I used ORS Hair Mayonaise mixed with Extra Virgin
Olive Oil and Coconut oil for 25mins under my heat cap (this is a medium protein
treatment). I prefer to do my protein treatments on clean clarified hair. I don't like the
strong smell of this DC because i can't stand perfume smells. This has always been in
my stash as a back up plan for my Aphogee.
[4]  Deep Conditioned with Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask for 45mins
       with heat.
[5  Rinse and wrap my hair in a t-shirt for 1 hour
[6]   With my hair in 4 sections sprayed Aphogee Keratin Green Tea Reconstructizer and
Herbal Essence Split Ended Protector (my ends only) , Aussie Moist Conditioner and
detangled very carefully. This was the part that really shocked me because I would
normally use my Mane n Tale Detangler at this point but the comb glided through my
       new growth.
